As our top trading partner, Canada plays an integral role in U.S. job creation. It is also our largest supplier of oil, providing nearly 3 million barrels per day, or more than 30% of U.S. imports.

Ambassador Doer will discuss Canada’s position as a stable, secure and environmentally responsible energy supplier to North America and the world. The Keystone XL pipeline is one part of a greater energy security agenda.

In October 2009, Gary Doer assumed his responsibilities as Canada’s 23rd representative to the United States of America. Prior to taking up his current position in Washington, D.C., Ambassador Doer served as Premier of Manitoba for ten years. During that time, he worked extensively with U.S. Governors to enhance Canada-U.S. cooperation on trade, agriculture, water protection, climate change and renewable energy.
